Giving & Gratitude at The Crossvine
t’s the holiday season and our gratitude cups are overflowing. We’re surrounded by generous neighbors with a giving spirit, and thanks to them, The Crossvine is filled with warmth and kindness. In many instances, our thoughtful neighbors have helped us better both our community and the greater Schertz and San Antonio communities.
As we celebrate this season, we wanted to take this time to share some of the stories and events that have filled our hearts over the past few months:
1. Welcoming an Afghan family to their new home in the US.
In October, The Crossvine helped welcome an expecting mother, father, grandfather, and two children into the San Antonio community. The family made the long journey from Kabul to Doha to El Paso to Central Texas. They moved into an apartment complex and now call San Antonio home.
Knowing the family would be arriving with just a few personal belongings, The Crossvine community quickly got to work in setting up their apartment. A donation collection started alongside the semi-annual community garage sale, and many residents chose to donate rather than sell their items. In a matter of days cribs, mattresses, bedding, and other essential items filled the apartment. This hospitality made for a warm, Texas welcome!
2. Gathering supplies for the back-to-school season.
In partnership with David Weekley Homes, The Crossvine celebrated the back-to-school season with a School Supply Drive. Residents were invited to purchase items from a wish list on Amazon or to drop off supplies at the builder’s model home here in The Crossvine.
Thanks to the generosity of the residents, students in Schertz returned to school ready to learn with bright markers, sharp pencils, and fresh notebooks!
3. Dancing and donating for SAMMinistries.
Recently, The Crossvine community kicked off the giving season with Friendsgiving Back, a food drive benefiting SAMMinistries. The organization prevents homelessness in San Antonio using a compassionate approach that brings self-sufficiency and dignity to struggling families.
Live music and laser tag brought the energy and fun while thoughtful donations from The Crossvine residents made it a night to remember.
These are just a few of the great memories from this past year. We’ve also loved events like the Dog Days of Summer, which brought awareness to pet adoption and essential procedures like spaying and neutering. The Night in Ole Crossvine Fiesta Event, which included a food drive in partnership with The Crossvine resident David Karras, will forever be one of our favorite movie nights.
There’s so much goodness to go around here. If you’re interested in getting involved this giving season, a Blue Santa toy drive is happening now. You can learn more about it here.
